Black Friday... the day where shoppers become aggressive and morals are thrown out the door because a measly amount of money can be saved. This may be the first reported incident so far today, but I'm sure there will be more across the country.
A temporary Wal-Mart worker was trampled to death this morning right after store opening by 200 bum-rushing cheapo's. A pregnant woman was also knocked down during the initial rush, hopefully the she didn't have a miscarriage. Who will be held responsible for this 34 year old man's death? Will they charge the company or the group of people who managed to break the hinges off the doors and even windows to get to a sale? Police had to shut down the whole store, located in Long Island, for further investigation. Way to go early birds, first you kill an innocent man, then you fuck up shopping everyone else. And if you are pregnant, why the hell would you risk your child's life knowing that tragic events always end up happening the dawn of Black Friday?
I simply do not understand what people are thinking.

The Berry Is Finally Pink!

Long overdue... With a name like Pinkberry they should have had this new flavor from the start!
I love Pomegranate flavored drinks already, so I'm sure I will enjoy this one. Rice Cakes is still going to be my main topping, but now I have to diverge from strawberries and try something different with Pomegranate (maybe the new Pomegranate seeds?).
Pinkberry isn't the only one going Pomme, Red Mango has already joined the healthy fun with their version earlier this month, which they advertise their version as having the POM Wonderful ingredient. I would like to test out both sides to see if there are any major differences.
Who stole who's idea? Or are they working together?
Either way, competition is healthy for this great economy!

Good thing I filled out that survey from Pinkberry back then, I still have some credit on my card to try this new deal out ;)!

To Train, Or To Not Train... That Is The Question!

Looks like those poor folks over at the M.T.A are proposing a decrease in service and increase in fares, sounds fair (no pun). Do we really need both solutions to get M.T.A back into the swing of things? Maybe I would accept easily with either a price increase, or service cut, but both? Come on, they are just being greedy now!
23% increase by June 2009, and another 5% by 2010. I don't even want to look at the numbers. Trains are already jam packed as is during rush hours, if anything they should be adding a couple more trains during those times. I'm starting to think paying for gas and driving into the city would be more financially reasonable, eh, who am I kidding? I'll probably end up on a Razor or roller-blades.
In addition to all of this, they announced they will be cutting 2,700 jobs saving $261 million. Well shit, if cutting that little amount of jobs will save THAT much, obviously the problem isn't the fees or services, it's the dam employees getting paid way too much! That comes out to about 96K per person, I hope those aren't yearly salaries, or I just may have been looking in the wrong place for a career.

I love G-mail, don't you? Best free mail service out there, from the great search function to the G-Voice/Video Chat.
But you know what would make it better? Being able to add a theme to it and change as you will!
Google just announced that G-mail will now have many themes available for you to choose from to apply to your window. Currently there isn't any customization allowed, but we all know that sooner or later Google will open-source that bad boy.
They are rolling out this cool plug-in as we speak, some of you may already have it available, just go to your G-mail settings and click on the Themes tab.
I personally dig the chrome looking one, mid-left on the picture. Now I can add one more reason for me to be checking my e-mail every minute, good thing I don't own a Crackberry yet.

Well, if you guessed the latter, you are right!
Scientists say that it may be possible to resurrect this extinct species by decoding ancient DNA found in hair (or hairballs). While this is not the first attempt to bring back this Ice Age beast, advanced DNA sequencing machines may prove to be more worthy than impregnating a female elephant with some frozen mammoth sperm. The best part of this whole thing is that it will only cost $10 Million to complete this task (where the hell do they get that kind of estimate anyway?). Unless this Holy Mammoth can bring our slowing economy back onto its feet, I think we have better things to spend our money on. Actually, maybe we can auction off the Mammoth's Ivory Tusks for $11 Million on E-bay and make a profit!
Darn it Obama, is this the change that you promised?

If this type of fringe science works, what will become of our planet? Humans playing God has never sounded like a great idea, and this is definitely one of those times we should leave this mammal extinct. Who knows how stable or manageable a living Woolly Mammoth would be, for all we know it could trample all over us or even fling us around with his huge tusks.

The Only Event Worth Standing In The Cold For On Halloween!

In a couple of days darkness will reign for the entire day, while ghouls and ghosts are out and about. Halloween, such a sweet frightening holiday!
There are things you can't miss on this day:
Candy (for the little ones), and the Annual Halloween Parade in NYC (for the ones who grew out of trick-or-treating / hates going to the dentist).
I accidentally stumbled upon this fantastic event 2 years ago while walking around the city after work, I saw a bunch of Police barricades so I was curious. After asking around and finding out about the parade, I stood there by myself for about 2 hours to watch the whole thing. The entire time I was amazed and excited to see how creative and intricate everyone's costumes were. From huge floats and multi-human costumes, to crazy people running around half-naked, you're bound to see something you're "into".
The parade runs for a good amount of blocks, but don't be fooled, this event gets jam packed. Getting there an hour early is the safest bet to get a good spot right at the front. I will be going straight after work and probably standing near the entrance of the parade so I can see everything and leave to get my drink on!
I highly recommend anyone to definitely stop by and take a peek, it's a massive event with pretty much the whole city attending! I CAN'T WAIT!

Uniqlo Thinks They Can Vend Us For Free?

Yay! Another free clothing event that I cannot attend. Stupid work!
IF anyone missed the Diesel event, you can try your luck with this Uniqlo event, but I warn you, it's in the heart of Times Square. Good lucking fighting the tourists and hipsters.

Uniqlo is promoting their new Heat Tech Innerwear next month. The cool / weird part is how they are doing it. They plan on having a giant human vending machine, with mimes and employees dressed up in silver spacesuits! I can't really picture how it's going to work, but here is a digital rendering of what it may look like.
I wish I could go, I would like to see the whole process of "miming".

This large Golden Orb Weaver spider caught a native finch, called the Chestnut-breasted Mannikin, in it's super protein reinforced webbing. Spiders are crazy, this species usually eats large insects, but come on, a innocent little finch? What's next, a baby boy?

Starbucks Will Now Bow To Dunkin' Donuts?

The Truth Is Out!

Dunkin' Donuts has made it official, they are publicly calling out Starbucks for coffee bragging rights. Joining McDonald's in the competitive caffeinated market, DD looks to make their own statement. Complete with their very own website, www.dunkinbeatstarbucks.com, it appears they are very serious! I wonder how Starbucks will retaliate, if they do.
The double-blind taste test that was the basis of DD's confidence put DD's Original Blend up against Sbux's House Blend. As a former employee of Sbux, I can say that House Blend is one of the worse blends they have to offer, it is a mild type as well. Didn't really seem like a fair test to me, DD chose one of the worse blends to compare to a blend that they serve daily. Starbucks rotates their blend (at least when I was still there) every week, so taste buds do not get bored. I think DD should have done a test on the House Blend and also a speciality blend like Komodo Dragon, or Arabian Mocha Blend. Although I think DD lost points from me on this stunt, I do find their ads very entertaining and witty.

Starbucks:
Good: cozy, Wi-fi, drink variety, good service, encourages customization,
Bad: pricey, longer lines, mostly open for less hours,

Dunkin' Donuts:
Good: cheap, short lines, food variety, open earlier/later, may have Baskin Robbins or Taco Bell attached
Bad: bad service, small, hasty

Also, if anyone has a Costco card and is looking for some great stocking stuffers, or just simply loves Starbucks, you can buy five $20 Starbucks Cards for the price of $80. You save $20! This is the first time Starbucks has done a promotion like this, I think it will be very successful once more people know about it. Hell, it may even spike the amount of members with Costco!

Brazil has their own set of releases when it comes to Nike SB sneakers, and they focus mainly on dunks. Many of these are sought after, with the Miami EMB's being the most popular. The third Brazil Custom Series is set to release November 13th with three brand new Dunk lows. The inspiration behind these designs is Music (headphones, walkman, cassette tape). Each pair will be limited to 480, better start saving up!
I really like the purple/black colorway, I think I may have to try to get them.
Each pair will also have a matching T-shirt to go with them.

Being Married To The Mob Does Have Benefits!

Here we have a collaboration between Married To The Mob and Nike, recently MTTM and Reebok got together for a shoe, but I think these Dunks take the cake. With Woven material and a hint of patent leather, they definitely do stand out as unique, yet the colorway is so simple. The gold "MOB" emblem is also a nice touch.
I believe these are for ladies only, and will release only at Tier-0 accounts. So that means these will be pretty limited. Some shops in NY that have Tier-0 are Nort/Recon, Alife/Rivington Club, and Dave's Quality Meats. Slated for a Mid November Release.

I'm glad that the ladies are getting some exclusive love too!

This is a private residence in Western Germany that just exudes beauty. The curves, the fluidity, the virtuous design... it's all so amazing. Kudos to the designer/architect!
From the outside view, this looks like a futuristic building straight out of Star Wars. The inside is all about emptiness, less is more, space redefined. That pool is just breathtaking, I would be too scared to jump in and ruin that fascinating reflection. I wonder how much this tuxedo costs?
One thing is for sure, if I owned Google, I'd buy this suit out. Until then, I will continue to pursue my dreams!

Apple announced their new upgraded laptops today!
New Macbooks and Macbook Pros coming as soon as tomorrow.

The all white models will now start at $999, while the new models will start at $1299.
Here are some cool new features:
-glass multi-touch trackpad [no more buttons, the whole trackpad is a button]
-aluminum body [gives it a much sleeker, sexy, stronger look]
-upgraded graphics [ 5x more than the old macbook, go Nvidia!]
-Corner to corner glass display [again, sexy!]
-5 hours battery life [not sure how much the older one was]

Overall, I am loving the black trim, looks so classy. Although I am still doing good with my old Macbook, I can't wait for it to break *ahem*, so I can get a new one!

As many of you know, Google usually does something creative with their logo on holidays/anniversaries/special symbolic days. Today is Columbus Day, and I wanted to see what Google has done to their logo to represent this. To my surprise, I did not see anything related to Columbus, just a cute little bear waiting for his ride to his destination. I was curious how this bear was related to the holiday so I clicked to dive deeper only to find a name, Paddington Bear. I was quite surprised to see that Google chose a 50th year anniversary of the book "A Bear Called Paddington", which was published in October 13th, 1958.
I guess Columbus Day happens every year, so they decided not to go with that for the logo change, although maybe they should start incorporating two or more celebrations into the logo. Maybe a nice little sea ship could have replaced the O's in Google.
Now that I think about it, I like the fact that Google chose a different celebration to display, because not many people would have known about this, and it just helps us learn more about other great things in history.

Yeah Yeah Yeah... It's my 25th birthday today, or should I call it my "Quarter-Life Crisis". Meh.. If anything I don't feel like I lived a quarter of my life, definitely not! I need to grow up first, hah.
It's just another day to me, just another day filled with lots of attention and people celebrating for my day. People who I haven't spoken to in months or even years, but for this one day, there is an exception.
What is it about Birthdays that invite people to be social-able? Why does it have to be once a year where you give me your attention, I much rather enjoy it weekly, or even monthly. I am not speaking to anyone in particular, Nor am I complaining, but it's just an observation I have made throughout my years...

It's the start of a new birth year, and I hope good things are still to come, especially financially/career wise. Wow, I just realized this is my FIRST blog post about me specifically, I apologize.

Today North American Starbucks stores officially launched their "Signature Hot Chocolate" line of beverages. Just in time for Fall! No longer is the regular Mocha used to make their hot chocolates, they now use a blend of 4 different cocoas, attempting to give it a European-style swag. Aside from the plain one, they also have Hazelnut and Salted(What??) Caramel Hot Chocolates.
While at my old store I used to work at today, I was tempted to try the Salted version, but it was a bit warm out today and I decided to save my taste buds from this new drink. While re-kindling with my manager she described the taste of the Salted Caramel is just like eating a Chocolate covered pretzel. That sounds pretty enticing to me now, I think I will give it a try when the flakes of snow start floating upon us.
She also explained the ingredients, so here it is: Cocoa blend, Toffeenut syrup, steamed milk, topped with whipped cream, caramel swirl, and sprinkles of Sea Salt. Wow, now that's a party in your mouth. According to Starbucks' nutrition information, a Grande Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate with whole milk and whipped cream is 640 Calories, God Dam!
If I indulge in one of these, I will have to skip dessert! What are you waiting for? Go and count your calories away!

I know some of my friends have "appled" to Apple previously, whether it was for the Genius position or just retail. Here is the interview/hiring process leaked from someone who went through it all, specifically for the Genius position. From what I read, seems like those Genius's don't get to have much fun and are locked down. But dam, the pay is pretty dam good! ($17/hour)

Maybe after reading this, one can be more successful at getting this position, at least until Apple finds this and decides to re-vamp their whole interviewing process.

Just a while ago Google released their browser, Chrome, to the public (striking resemblance to the game). Currently, this open source browser is available for Windows only. After using it for a little bit, my first impression is that the interface is very clean and simple. I wonder if Google will outdo Mozilla in the browser war.

Here are a couple cool features:

-Tabbed browsing where each tab gets its own process, leading to faster and more stable browsing. If one tab crashes, the whole browser doesn’t go down with it

-An “incognito” mode that lets you browse the web in complete privacy because it doesn’t record any of your activity

I am particularly interested in the incognito mode, if this becomes a very successful browser and this feature is popular amongst the users, what will happen to online marketers who drop cookies and track user's activity? Gone out the window are metrics for conversions, impressions, clicks, etc. This may well be a new change in technology that shoppers have been looking for, the ability to browse with privacy. It is still too early to tell though, we shall see what's to come. Give it a download and check it out for yourself!

Jealousy is a very strong emotion that can destroy relationships. How do you handle this matter? I must admit, now that I think back on all the times where I was jealous over something, I would suddenly become non-social and say things in a tone of voice i'd never use normally. I read a brief Wiki on ways to stop being jealous, and it makes alot of sense. I think I will attempt to satisfy these goals. I suggest anyone who has these same feelings to give this a read. 5 minutes of your time can save you a relationship that may last a lifetime...

Finally, this highly anticipated 2-D fighter is in NYC! Located on Mott St. in Chinatown, this famous arcade is known for breeding pro's in the fighting game arena. Be sure to bring your A-Game when playing here, they do not go easy on you. Street Fighter IV will cost $1 to play, and currently, you have to sign up on a list when you get there to get in queue to play. Looks like the game is on the Japanese style 2 monitor / sit down gameplay. I am most likely going to go spectate, I don't want to get pwned. Hopefully this game will become more available throughout NY. Will SF IV bring the golden days of 2-D competitive gaming back? I sure hope so...

I am still quite confused about the logic, will everyone actually sacrifice their seats to make more room for people to come onto the already packed train? I think not! They are planning to only have a few train cars out of the chain to have these flip-seats, let's just see how this works.

These dunks were created by Jesse Leyva, who works for Nike Sportswear. Inspired from the upcoming "Beautiful Losers" documentary, which is based on art, culture, hip hop, skateboarding + More! With screenings happening in NYC / LA this weekend, they will be hosting youth mentoring workshops and these shoes will be auctioned off at them, with proceeds going to Children's Aid Society. Only 22 pairs of each style were created, so these are basically hyper-strikes if you were to categorize them. Each shoe takes on a meaningful image still in the documentary. I love when Nike does collaborations that actually have a good cause for it. Good luck getting your pair!

When out on the job market interviewing and researching, we look up the companies and read about them, which ultimately helps us make a decision in choosing the right employer. What we really want to know is the insider's perspective, especially the pros and cons, along with the salary information. Well this is exactly what Glassdoor provides, an inside look through the private walls of corporate giants. While this may come in handy only for more popular employers, you never know what you may find.
Similar to Vault, they provide information written anonymously about their current or former employer, as well as how much the position is paid. The great thing about Glassdoor is that it's FREE, in terms of monetary amount anyway. You have to sign up to be able to access the information, but to fit the criteria, you have to share one review about your past or present job, and also your salary range. Although you can lie and fill it up with BS, you'd only be helping other people who are interested in your company or position. I posted information about Starbucks, my previous employer, which already has many reviews and such.
This is still in beta, they only been around since 2007. But as they keep growing and more companies get listed, I believe this will become a very useful tool for those on the hunt for work. Keep it bookmarked, and visit often to check for new reviews on your prospective employers! Make sure to contribute :)

Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong?

Came across this and wanted to share, especially since I live in Long Island.
Basically this creature washed onto shore last week in the Hamptons, and has been all over the internet since. Lots of speculation, no real evidence yet. Supposedly an interview will be taking place Friday with the people who first discovered and snapped photos of it. The creature is no longer at the beach, people say someone swung by and took it.
I really hope this is not real, or I am not going in the beach waters unless it's clear!
What do you guys think?
