Death Friday. . .

Black Friday... the day where shoppers become aggressive and morals are thrown out the door because a measly amount of money can be saved. This may be the first reported incident so far today, but I'm sure there will be more across the country.
A temporary Wal-Mart worker was trampled to death this morning right after store opening by 200 bum-rushing cheapo's. A pregnant woman was also knocked down during the initial rush, hopefully the she didn't have a miscarriage. Who will be held responsible for this 34 year old man's death? Will they charge the company or the group of people who managed to break the hinges off the doors and even windows to get to a sale? Police had to shut down the whole store, located in Long Island, for further investigation. Way to go early birds, first you kill an innocent man, then you fuck up shopping everyone else. And if you are pregnant, why the hell would you risk your child's life knowing that tragic events always end up happening the dawn of Black Friday?
I simply do not understand what people are thinking.
Here are some images of the incident this morning:

So to all you early bird shoppers or even all day shoppers, stay alert and be careful.

To Train, Or To Not Train... That Is The Question!

Looks like those poor folks over at the M.T.A are proposing a decrease in service and increase in fares, sounds fair (no pun). Do we really need both solutions to get M.T.A back into the swing of things? Maybe I would accept easily with either a price increase, or service cut, but both? Come on, they are just being greedy now!
23% increase by June 2009, and another 5% by 2010. I don't even want to look at the numbers. Trains are already jam packed as is during rush hours, if anything they should be adding a couple more trains during those times. I'm starting to think paying for gas and driving into the city would be more financially reasonable, eh, who am I kidding? I'll probably end up on a Razor or roller-blades.
In addition to all of this, they announced they will be cutting 2,700 jobs saving $261 million. Well shit, if cutting that little amount of jobs will save THAT much, obviously the problem isn't the fees or services, it's the dam employees getting paid way too much! That comes out to about 96K per person, I hope those aren't yearly salaries, or I just may have been looking in the wrong place for a career.

Woolly Mammoth: Coming To A City Near You... To Eat You!

Does that look like what you found in last night's dinner? Or maybe clogged in your tub drain? Perhaps a birds nest? Or a Woolly Mammoth hairball?
Well, if you guessed the latter, you are right!
Scientists say that it may be possible to resurrect this extinct species by decoding ancient DNA found in hair (or hairballs). While this is not the first attempt to bring back this Ice Age beast, advanced DNA sequencing machines may prove to be more worthy than impregnating a female elephant with some frozen mammoth sperm. The best part of this whole thing is that it will only cost $10 Million to complete this task (where the hell do they get that kind of estimate anyway?). Unless this Holy Mammoth can bring our slowing economy back onto its feet, I think we have better things to spend our money on. Actually, maybe we can auction off the Mammoth's Ivory Tusks for $11 Million on E-bay and make a profit!
Darn it Obama, is this the change that you promised?

If this type of fringe science works, what will become of our planet? Humans playing God has never sounded like a great idea, and this is definitely one of those times we should leave this mammal extinct. Who knows how stable or manageable a living Woolly Mammoth would be, for all we know it could trample all over us or even fling us around with his huge tusks.
What's next, Dinosaurs? *Rawr!

Google Doesn't Want You To Get The Flu

Google has done it again, come up with a way not to make money but to provide a free service! Flu Trends will help you get an early warning if a possible flu outbreak is near or in your state. It basically logs any search term related to the flu or the symptoms and charts it on the graph above.
Now you know when you see your state become a very dark shade of blue, you better run to the doctor's and get that flu shot too! (I made a rhymie!)

Starbucks Will Now Bow To Dunkin' Donuts?

The Truth Is Out!
Dunkin' Donuts has made it official, they are publicly calling out Starbucks for coffee bragging rights. Joining McDonald's in the competitive caffeinated market, DD looks to make their own statement. Complete with their very own website, www.dunkinbeatstarbucks.com, it appears they are very serious! I wonder how Starbucks will retaliate, if they do.
The double-blind taste test that was the basis of DD's confidence put DD's Original Blend up against Sbux's House Blend. As a former employee of Sbux, I can say that House Blend is one of the worse blends they have to offer, it is a mild type as well. Didn't really seem like a fair test to me, DD chose one of the worse blends to compare to a blend that they serve daily. Starbucks rotates their blend (at least when I was still there) every week, so taste buds do not get bored. I think DD should have done a test on the House Blend and also a speciality blend like Komodo Dragon, or Arabian Mocha Blend. Although I think DD lost points from me on this stunt, I do find their ads very entertaining and witty.

TV Commercial:

Here are some of my personal experiences:

Starbucks:
Good: cozy, Wi-fi, drink variety, good service, encourages customization,
Bad: pricey, longer lines, mostly open for less hours,

Dunkin' Donuts:
Good: cheap, short lines, food variety, open earlier/later, may have Baskin Robbins or Taco Bell attached
Bad: bad service, small, hasty

Also, if anyone has a Costco card and is looking for some great stocking stuffers, or just simply loves Starbucks, you can buy five $20 Starbucks Cards for the price of $80. You save $20! This is the first time Starbucks has done a promotion like this, I think it will be very successful once more people know about it. Hell, it may even spike the amount of members with Costco!

Get Ya (Gamer) Grub On!

In case you were bored by Palin's crappy VP Debate , tired of hearing the word "Maverick" like 50 times, or amazed by her response to Biden, "Say it ain't so, Joe" (definitely was waiting for the opportunity to say that), here is a funny/interesting/sad new product!
Gamer Grub!

It's the official snack of the WCG this year, and will be available to retailers early 2009.
This awesome "healthy" snack comes in a cylinder type tube for easy access to the goodies without having to use your tiny little fingers to grab each crumb and then wipe the grease onto your jeans. It is being marketed as the first "performance snack formulated especially for gamers." Hah! I didn't realize gaming was a performance sport, I wonder if taking steroids will help increase my frags.
Here comes the best part, the actual naming of the current 4 flavors out.
Action Pizza, Racing Wasabi, Strategy Chocolate and Sports PB&J. I bet the team behind the name creation had loads of fun doing this. Let's give it a try shall we?
Camping Cereal, Destructive Heros, Leveling Lasagna, and Finishing Fruit!
Man, they could have hired me... Being a gamer myself, I can't see myself at the arcades playing SF IV, and it's the tie breaker round. I say "hold up!", then I proceed to whip out my Action Pizza in it's awesome tube, and gulp down the goodies and say "look ma! no hands! (getting dirty)." My enemy will now stare blankly as I destroy him with my super enhanced hand-eye coordinated reaction time rapid firing button mashing combo hitting super smashing skills. Yes, I can see it now. I will be stocking up on these products and wait for their IPO.

As fatty as they look, they do have a good mix of vitamins and nutrients to boost your core gaming systems. Expect to find these in each snack: Vitamins (A, B3,C, E,), Magnesium, Choline, and L-Glutamic Acid.

Kanye West Gets Lockdown! (Not By Love)

So Kanye got himself arrested this morning at LAX and is being held on $20K bail. All because of his ego unfriendliness. Basically a photographer was taking pictures of Kanye, and when he realized, he rushed towards the poor boy and snatched his camera and threw it on the ground. Another person was filming this whilie it happened. Cops came and owned Kanye and his bodyguard. Tsk tsk. Silly Kanye, violence is for kids.
I guess he really wanted to be on "Lockdown"

Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong?

Came across this and wanted to share, especially since I live in Long Island.
Basically this creature washed onto shore last week in the Hamptons, and has been all over the internet since. Lots of speculation, no real evidence yet. Supposedly an interview will be taking place Friday with the people who first discovered and snapped photos of it. The creature is no longer at the beach, people say someone swung by and took it.
I really hope this is not real, or I am not going in the beach waters unless it's clear!

New Raise Is Enough To Buy A McDonald's Meal!

Yummy. Sorry guys, no supersize, just medium. As of today, the federal minimum wage has increased $0.70, bringing it to $6.55 per hour! Hooray! Now people can afford food AND gas, it's about dam time. I remember working at the movie theaters 7 years ago, man I had to live off of greasy buttery popcorn and soda so I can save my money for other things in life. I wish this was the rate I got back then! This will have to do, until they initiate the next increase in July 2009 to $7.25. So whoever doesn't have a job yet, this is a good time to start one, even if it's temporary!
Hint, hint, lizer.

Are Black People The Next Terrorist?

With the upcoming Olympics in a couple of weeks, China has been fortifying their defenses to prevent any terrorist attacks or anything of that sort. But where do we set limits on racial profiling? According to this article, bar owners in Beijing are being forced to sign a pledge agreeing that they will not allow 'black' people into their business. This is going to be a big night, with thousands of people of different cultures attending, how can they just nonchalantly say to a whole group, "Sorry, no blacks allowed!" I wonder if an organization will find out about this and try come up with a solution, before all hell breaks loose in Beijing. So much for the official slogan of the Olympics, "One World One Dream."
As of now, this is how I see it.

Here is the entire article, you have to register to actual see the link, so I pasted it here.
Source: South China Morning Post

Beijing authorities are secretly planning to ban black people and others it considers social undesirables from entering the city's bars during the Olympic Games, a move that would contradict the official slogan, "One World, One Dream".

Bar owners near the Workers' Stadium in central Beijing say they have been forced by Public Security Bureau officials to sign pledges agreeing not to let black people enter their premises.

"Uniformed Public Security Bureau officers came into the bar recently and told me not to serve black people or Mongolians," said the co-owner of a western-style bar, who asked not to be named.

The local authorities have been cracking down on blacks and Mongolians in an attempt to stamp out drug dealing and prostitution ahead of the Games, the proprietors said.

A few months ago, police launched a violent sting on black men drinking in the Sanlitun bar district, and a notorious nightclub largely populated by Mongolian prostitutes was also shut down.

Security officials are targeting Sanlitun, which Olympic organisers expect to be a key destination for foreign tourists looking for a party during the Games.

The pledges that Sanlitun bar owners had been instructed to sign agreed to stop a variety of activities in their establishments, including dancing and serving customers with black skin, they said.

They have been allowed to keep copies of all the pledges except those relating to blacks, implying that the authorities are wary of charges of racism.

"I am appalled," said a black British national who works in Beijing. "I understand that the government is trying to stop certain illegal activities, but I don't think blanket discrimination is going about it the right way.

"Chinese people are prejudiced, but I would have hoped that the government would set a better example as it debuts on the world stage."

Calls to Dongcheng district and Chaoyang district public security bureaus, which oversee the bar districts, went unanswered.

The authorities' attempt to keep unwanted behaviour from damaging the squeaky-clean image of the Games is the latest example of heavy-handedness that critics say is killing the party spirit of the Olympics.

During the Athens Olympics four years ago, bars and nightclubs were allowed to stay open all night. But venues in Beijing that are not being shut down during the Games will have to close at 2am and maintain tight security.

"The officials told me to inform my customers that they must at all times carry their passports or ID cards," said one bar owner.

"Security is important, but Beijing is becoming a fortress, and that's not attractive."

Rumours that all bars within 2km of an Olympic venue will need to close remain unconfirmed, with many managers complaining that they still have not been told whether they will be allowed to open or not. Several bars have been raided in the past few weeks as local police step up a campaign of low-level intimidation, according to several witness accounts.

Bar and restaurant managers in Sanlitun have been instructed to remove tables from footpaths in a crude attempt to prevent fighting in the streets.

"The local police told us to get rid of the tables because they're scared that if too many foreigners congregate outside there could be trouble," said Song Xun , who runs a burrito joint in the area.

Local musicians say that a clampdown on live music risks stifling Beijing's thriving cultural scene and giving Olympic tourists the false impression that the city is artistically anaemic.

Several popular live music venues have been shut or instructed to stop all outdoor shows, and club owners complain they have got used to strange new guests nursing a beer for hours and suspiciously observing everything around them.

"The whole music scene is angry and bewildered. It is impossible to understand how keeping tourists from seeing an open, culturally vibrant and diverse Beijing is possibly a good thing for anyone," said one well-known figure in the local music industry.

David Mitchell, a Beijing-based jazz musician, said it had become increasingly difficult for his band to find anywhere to play.

"It appears the local government is trying to control every aspect of the experience that foreigners get when they come here," he said.

"Everything is aimed at creating stability, but they don't understand that is precisely the unfounded prejudice that foreigners have of Chinese society - that it is a highly controlled and not a very cultural place. It seems completely self-defeating."

You Say Tomato, I Say Salmonella!

On three... one.two..three! NO MORE DIARRHEA!

Good news for you tomato lovers, the FDA has lifted the warning on tomatoes and has failed to find evidence of the bacteria strain in one of our most cherished veggies. Oh how my mozzarella misses you, tomato. Caprese Salad without tomatoes is like Pinkberry with no toppings, unimaginably BORING! (They now have Lychee as a topping!!!!)
Pardon my MS Paint editing, I don't have Photoshop.
Honestly though, I will give it another few weeks before I go pig out on tomatoes, just to be safe. I hope you all do the same!

Are You Constantly Missing Money? Missing Money Will Help You Find Some!

What's more fun than finding money on the ground or in the coin pocket of a phone booth? Finding money that is actually under your ownership! There is this new site out, Missing Money, that claims it will help you find any missing money in the form of unclaimed property, un-cashed checks, etc.

Here is a list of the Top 10 most common types of unclaimed property (provided by Search Engine Watch):

1. Bank accounts
2. Stocks, mutual funds, bonds, and dividends
3. Uncashed checks and wages
4. Insurance policies
5. Utility deposits
6. Safe deposit box contents
7. Escrow accounts
8. Trust funds
9. Certificates of deposit (CDs)

Once you visit the site after it's done lagging, probably being hammered by everyone since it's a new thing that just spawned, just plug in your name and it will populate a list of locations that match that name. It works like a search engine, if you find yourself on there, you will be eligible to claim the funds, whether it's $50 or $1000. I am very skeptical about this, especially since I do not know what the 'catch' is. But it has been publicly advertised and other credible sites have wrote about it, so I can only say that it is worth a try.

I don't have any funds myself, but maybe some of you do. Who knows? Just take a few minutes to check, and you may end up with some extra cash to spend :)
(Not all states have been added to this list, they are still in the process of getting the whole nation on here, as of now, NY is not yet added! So if you don't see your name and you are from NY, don't fret, just wait and try again in a few days).

Alt.E - A New Kind Of Hero...

It's great to see people with money and power take iniatitive to try and save the world, or America for that matter. T. Boone Pickens, who runs BP Capital, is trying to make a change by reaching out to every single person who believes in his Plan. According to statistics, we currently import 70% foreign oil, compared to 24% back in 1970. We are spending about $700 Billion a year; that much money could be used on something more efficient, like alternative energy.
As issues of caring for our precious environment are continually growing, time is of the essence, and we need a plan to change our habits. Luckily, Mr. Pickens has done exactly so, I invite you to visit his newly launched site with lots of educating information about what his plans are, and how we can help make it happen.
Hopefully, this will become large enough to reach the presidential candidates, and they can take a stab at coming up with a solution to enforce these goals.
Will natural gas and Wind ever become a more reliable resource than oil? Are you willing to sacrifice your luxurious vehicle for a simple boxy electric car?
Save yourself or save the country. You decide.

Miss Jones is now Ms. Gone

Yup, no more Miss Jones on the Hot 97 Morning Show! Today starts the official week of more music playing during the morning, and less gossiping (at least until the end of July). Although I will admit that I did enjoy "Jonesy Juice" at times, because they do talk about current topics on the music industry. But the bad outweighs the gossip, from her disrespectful tone of voice and demeanor, to her utterly insensitive remarks, especially participating in the "Tsunami Song" back in 2005.
Apparently, her contract with Hot97 is up (meaning she did something stupid and really got in trouble this time!), so she will now be moving to a radio station in Philly, along with Michael Shawn. Big Boy will be taking over the Hot97 morning airwaves towards the end of July, hopefully he will shed a new light on entertainment news.

here's my MS paint contribution!:
